The Question of Sunday Services

The Unity Movement started in 1889 in the home of Charles and Myrtle Fillmore in Kansas City, Missouri. They held Sunday afternoon prayer, discussion, and healing sessions, expecting that those who participated would already have attended church services. Soon however, due to a nearly unanimous demand for an earlier-in-the-day Unity church service, Charles and Myrtle held morning services in their home and later had to find other facilities to hold the growing number of congregants.

Bethesda Unity serves members of other Unity centers in the Washington, D.C. area as a learning and healing center. Bethesda Unity was founded in February of 1997.

Bethesda Unity currently serves as an alternative ministry, part of an outreach program of Unity Christ Church in Gaithersburg, MD. The minister of Unity Christ Church is the Rev. Roger Goodwin, who served during 2005-2006 as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Association of Unity Churches International.
